Many of you have asked me a post about the different forms of the body and how to enhance them. However, before going to the heart of the matter, I thought: "can you recognize your body shape?" Don't worry if the answer is no, in today's article we'll see some simple steps to identify it :D
INTRODUCTION
There are 5 body shapes:
- Rectangle
- Triangle
- Inverted triangle
- Apple
- Hourglass
1.PROPORTIONS
Body shapes can be categorized into two sections: proportionate and disproportionate ones; what does this mean? It means there is a difference in width between shoulders and hips (disproportionate) or not (proportionate). Once you'll have understood which group you belong to, you'll have already done a "skimming" :) Let's see in details:
- Proportionate figures - rectangle, apple and hourglass
- Disproportionate figures - triangle and inverted triangle: the shoulders of the first one are narrower than the hips, the second ones are the opposite.

2.EXTRA POUNDS
After having established the first point, let's move on to the second one: where do you tend to accumulate extra pounds?
Proportionate figures:
- The rectangle is the most fortunate shape among all of them, 'cause it tends not to put on weight easily. If it does, fat is distributed in a uniform way, so practically it can't be seen;
- Apple accumulates fat in the thoracic and abdominal area, mainly on the belly and the back;
- Hourglass gets fat everywhere, which isn't necessarily a disadvantage! If it puts on a few pounds it's also hard to notice it.
- Triangle accumulates mostly below the hips, so unluckily, butt and thighs;
- Inverted triangle, on the contrary, puts on weight from the waist up, that is, breast and arms.
3.ESTABLISH YOUR WAIST POINT
The waist is another useful key point in order to recognize your body shape. We can, therefore, make a further division:
- Marked waistline: hourglass, triangle, inverted triangle;
- Not marked waistline: rectangle and apple
4.ANALYZE YOUR THIGHS
Since you're still looking at your reflection, let's take the opportunity to better observe your thighs. Here too, subsections:
- Curvy thighs and curved sideways (we could say protruding): hourglass and triangle;
- Thin and slender thighs, straight on the side: rectangle, apple and inverted triangle.
Summing up and connecting together all the characteristics we've seen, you should have been able to figure out which body shape you're in :) However, if you still have any doubts, I'll give you a little secret I found on the web, especially on Moda Per Principianti. It's a beautiful post I suggest you to read!
In principle, I was very undecided about my shape, I didn't know if I was an hourglass or a triangle; so the secret is: look at the belly! In fact, this two shapes have a difference in it: hourglass, when puts on weight, has a very marked waistline, so it gets fat above and below the navel, creating two kinds of "rolls" (as happened to me); triangle, on the other hand, puts fat only from the navel downwards, leaving the waistline marked anyway, but the abdomen (at the stomach level), remains rather flat.
