Tips For Traveling Comfortably And In Style On Valentine's Day

How will you spend Valentine's Day? This year will be on Friday, so many couples have chosen to spend a romantic weekend out of town. If you're among them too, I'm sure your main questions will be: what will I wear for the trip, and what will I bring with me? Isn't it? ;) I'm here to help you!

I haven't been traveling in a while, actually. Thinking about it, the last weekend I took away from home was in Ischia, for a friend's wedding back in 2017, before the surgery (oh my, 3 years have already passed!). After that, I didn't travel anymore 'cause the family grows bigger: we have 3 dogs and 4 cats, so for now it's practically impossible to get away from home. However, I've traveled a lot in my entire life, especially by train and bus, starting from 16/17 years old, and therefore I know how to travel comfortably. There are 6 basic points:

1.WEAR DARK COLOURS

Or, at most, gray. You don't know what could happen while travel, clothes could get dirty, and wearing a dark colour would at least partially disguise any spots. I have the habit of leaning against the car hood when I stop to take a break during a trip: pity that a few years ago, while traveling, I wore light jeans... I brought that dark streak on my thighs for miles lol!

2. WEAR A COMFY OR OVERSIZED COAT

Do you know that feeling of not being able to move freely due to a too tight piece of clothes? I hate it in general, but especially on the go. Among other things, I have the habit of not taking off my coat, neither in the car, nor on other means of transportation: I know it's wrong, but I really don't feel like it in Winter (I'm so sensitive to the cold). So, I prefer to choose a comfortable one or, even better, an oversized coat: even if I had to keep it on all the way, it wouldn't bother me. You know, as I said in this article oversized clothes don't suit my body shape, but for comfort that's okay.

3. KEEP YOUR HAIR TIED

Always, at least with a half-tail. Whether you travel by car, train, ship or so, hair is very affected by smog and dust, just like skin. My advice is not to leave it loose during the trip, so you'll also less inclined to touch it or move it from your face: also because the more you touch it, the more it gets dirty. It's better to solve the problem at the origin!

4. USE AN ANTI-POLLUTION CREAM

Ce ne sono moltissime in commercio: I'm using Bottega Verde's MoringaDefense, which is also illuminating and anti-wrinkle. It's on sale at 75% off at the moment. Actually, it's still unclear if these anti-pollution creams help raise a barrier against pollutants: the micro particles, accumulating inside the skin, make it appear dull and dehydrated, fragile and favor premature aging. In addition, it seems to be a connection between pollution and dark spots on skin. However, this is seen with the passage of time. In doubt, I prefer to protect myself, or at least try to, and use one of these cream: they can be found at very affordable prices and you have to use it just like a normal face cream.

5. WEAR A LARGE BAG

Rather than carrying a bag AND a small suitcase, opt for a nice big bag (unless your boyfriend shares the suitcase with you, it's different in that case). However, since this Winter maxi bags are super trendy, I like to combine business with pleasure and choose the supersized bag. What to put inside, you ask, for a weekend? Stay minimal, 'cause it's alway the wisest choice. Take the bare minimum with you, which means:

  • First of all, the outfit for the evening: so shoes, bag and dress 'cause, as you can see, I already wear the accessories. I suggest you to put the shoes and the bag into sack-shaped canvas bags, those with drawstrings.
  • What you need for makeup and styling: hair straightener or curler, perfume and deodorant, and a basic makeup. Put them in a small and soft travel box and go!
  • The necessary for the intimate hygiene, therefore underwear and intimare soap (put some in one of those travel bottles). If you stay in a B&B or a hotel, it's almost certainly useless to bring shampoo, shower gel and so on with you, 'cause they should be supplied on site. If you want to be safe however, bring a bit of them with you.
  • Nightwear: be it a grandma's pajamas or a silk dressing gown, don't forget it! Try to get a pair of hotel slippers too: they're easier to carry on the go, in general :)

6. COMFY SHOES!

They're essential: wearing a pair of uncomfortable shoes all the way is awful! It doesn't mean that you must give up on heels if you're used to wear them :) A pair of Oxford are perfect, they're cute and feminine and comfy at the same time. In the pics I'm wearing a pair of Light In The Box oxford shoes: I'm selling them on Depop, obviously at a lower price, take a look if you're interested :)

That's all for now! Stay comfy on the way, have a good trip and an happy Valentine's Day <3

  1. These are great tips!! I'm like you when it comes to taking coats off. I don't like doing that too. I just can't be bothered in winter too. Comfort is key when travelling for sure.
